Entry Criteria
MURIWAI TOURNAMENT ŌPŌTIKI
The 40th Annual Muriwai Tournament will run for THREE days. Basketball will be held on Thursday 3rd of October 2024, at Opotiki College Gymnasium; Rangatahi Day will be held on Friday 4th of October, consisting of multiple codes. On Saturday, 5th October this year, senior Rugby (A & B grades for men) and Netball (A, B & C grades) together with the Intermediate netball grade will be played at the tournament. Therefore, there MAY be no lunch break to allow all games to be played in one day.
Teams, Coaches, Managers, and participants are encouraged to check the website draw regularly for game details and time updates.
Referees and Umpires
Rugby: The Eastern Bay of Plenty Rugby Referees Association (EBOP) will be officiating all rugby games at the Muriwai Tournament.
Netball: All netball teams must register a referee with their team registration. Team registration will only be accepted if a referee is registered within the team registration.
Cost
Rugby Mens & Womens: Team registration fees will be $150 per team in all senior grades and divisions.
Netball: Team registration fees will be $150 per team in all senior grades and divisions.
Basketball: Team registration fees will be $150 per team in all senior grades.
Rangatahi Junior team fees will be $30 per team entry in each code.
Game timings for all grades/divisions:

Rangatahi:
Rippa rugby will follow New Zealand Rippa rules https://www.rugbytoolbox.co.nz/the-game/rugby-laws/rippa-laws.
Junior Netball: New Zealand Netball rules apply. All boys may play Netball alongside girls up to the age of 12 without restriction. Year 7 and 8 boys who are under the age of 12 years may continue to play Netball at the discretion of tournament organisers.

3x3 Basketball will follow Basketball New Zealand Rules https://nz.basketball/competitions/schools/ss3x3champs/. The games will consist of two ten minute halves with a 2 minute break.
Wearing of safety equipment.
All players must wear appropriate safety equipment including MOUTH GUARDS for all codes. No mouth guards, no participation!
Security
Please ensure all personal items and items of value are secure at all times. The organisers take no responsibility for loss or damage to valuables or clothing.
Wifi
The event organisers will not be providing free wifi at the Muriwai tournament.
Medical Assistance
Teams are responsible for any immediate first aid for their players. To speak with a registered nurse you can phone 07 315 6126 or Healthline on 0800 611 116. A nurse-led clinic for acute and urgent primary medical care is open at the Opotiki Community Health Centre, 32a King Street, Opotiki.
Wet Weather Procedure
The wet weather procedures and protocols will happen in the eventuality of adverse weather conditions during the tournament.
In the event of light or intermittent rain before and during matches, play will continue as normal. However, in the event of heavy continuous rain the Code Coordinators reserve the right to postpone, delay or abandon any fixture.
In the event of lightning, play will be immediately stopped at all venues for the duration of that storm. The safety of the competitors and spectators is of the utmost importance to the organisers.
Medical Procedure
Whanau hauora - It is strongly recommended that any participant who is or becomes unwell during the tournament, removes themselves from all Muriwai Tournament organised events.
As the well-being of all participants in the tournament is the priority, organisers reserve the right to prevent any participant from competing in any event if, in the opinion of any medical provider or the tournament officials, the participant is deemed to be medically unfit to compete.
This includes any participant who exhibits flu-like symptoms (including but not limited to symptoms associated with the Coronavirus and measles) including fever and respiratory symptoms such as a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Muriwai Tournament organisers accepts no liability whatsoever (including tortious liability) for any losses or damages arising out of a medical event, including any necessary cancellations that arise as a result
Smoke free, alcohol free and drug free event/venues
The Muriwai Tournament is an auahi kore / smoke free, alcohol free and drug free event.
Waiver Disclaimer
Muriwai Tournament event organisers hereby confirm the following:
(1) That event organisers will not be held responsible or liable for any financial loss or damage of participants' property.
(2) That event organisers will not be held responsible or liable for any financial loss or damage of spectators and members of the public’s property.
(3) That event organisers shall not be responsible for medical transportation if required by participants.
(4) That event organisers shall not be responsible for medical transportation if required by spectators or members of the public.
(5) That event organisers and their designated photographer/videographer will be taking digital prints which will be used for marketing purposes to promote the Muriwai tournament.
